Afraid To Say Yes

Have you ever felt like God was leading you to do something, and yet you were afraid to do it?

Maybe you didn’t even recognize it was the Lord leading you, but you simply had a “feeling” like you needed to do this or that.

Lately my wife Gloria and I have felt a stirring in our hearts from the Lord to step out and do something we’ve never done before. Something big. Something that potentially would have a big impact for the Kingdom of God.

At first it was just a feeling, a thought that…maybe we should. What would it look like if we did do it?

After about a year of picking up the thought and putting it back down, we were in a Sunday night worship service. The pastor stood up in front of the congregation and announced that "if anyone needs prayer for anything at all, there would be pastors in the back of the room who would be glad to pray with you."

I knew right then that I needed to go for prayer. As I stepped past my wife and headed to the back of the room, I walked up to one of the elders of the church. That’s when I lost it.

As I began to try and explain what I would like prayer for, I was crying uncontrollably. It was fear.

I knew what God was calling us to do, but I was afraid.

I know that’s not the Christian thing to do, to own up to that, but it’s the truth. I was afraid. I was full of fear, and the enemy was trying to keep me from stepping out and trusting the Lord.

When I shared with the elder what it was, I felt like God was calling us to do, he said “hold on just a moment, I want to grab another pastor.” When the other pastor came over, I shared with him, what I had just shared with the elder, and that’s when they began to pray.

They prayed for peace. They prayed for wisdom and clarity. Finally, they prayed that the Lord would confirm His leading, guiding, and calling.

Over the next week, God reminded me of when he called me, and that His gifts and callings He never takes back. I knew what I needed to do.

It was time to walk by faith and not by sight.

Sometimes we allow fear to rise within us, and if left unchecked, it can cause us to miss out on some of the greatest blessing from the Lord. Here’s the thing…you may not have all the answers. You may not know how you’re going to get there, or how you’ll pay for it, but if God is calling you to it…trust Him.
